Alovera Vera plant / La planta del Alove Vera

Planta perenne de la familia de las liliáceas con hojas largas y carnosas, que arrancan de la parte baja del tallo, terminando en una espiga de flores rojas, blancas y a veces amarillas.

Es originaria del norte y del este de África y crece en climas tropicales y subtropicales. Hoy se cultiva principalmente en África del Sur, América Latina, Caribe y dentro del territorio europeo, en las Islas Canarias, pues requiere una temperatura no inferior a 10ºC y disponer de muchas horas de luz.

Existen más de doscientas especies distintas de ALOE, pero se ha comprobado que la que tiene más propiedades es la ALOE BARBADENSIS o ALOE VERA, de cuyas hojas se extrae el jugo. La planta necesita de unos 4 a 5 años para desarrollar todas sus propiedades en las hojas.

Lily family perennial with long, fleshy leaves which grow directly out of the bottom of the stem. Its flowers are red, white, and sometimes yellow.

It originated in north and east Africa and grows in tropical and subtropical climates. Nowadays, it is mainly grown in South Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and in the Canary Islands in Europe as it requires a temperature above 10ºC and many hours of sunlight.

There are more than two hundred species of ALOE. However, the varieties that have the most properties are ALOE BARBADENSIS and ALOE VERA. The juice is extracted from the leaves of these plants. The plant takes 4 or 5 years to reach maturity and attain all its properties.
